The Great Falls are a new part of the National Park System. Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park was established in 2009, making it the 397th National Park. The Paterson Museum and the Great Falls Historic District Cultural Center celebrate the river’s contributions to the area.
Located in the county seat of Patterson, the Great Falls are just one part of this dynamic city. Established in 1792, Patterson is the third largest city in New Jersey and the Great Falls Historic District is its most famous neighborhood. It contains shops, art galleries, cafes, restaurants, and a funky vibe with many artists living in the apartments that populate the area. Patterson is a diverse, pedestrian-friendly city with access to the New Jersey Transit Main Line.
Passaic County is home to Montclair State University, founded in 1908, and William Paterson University, founded in 1855. Other landmarks include Yogi Berra Stadium, Lambert Castle, Dey Mansion, and Ringwood Manor State Park. Recreation areas include Rifle Camp Park, Friendship Park, Apshawa Preserve, and Tranquility Ridge Park.
