Located 25 miles north of Seattle in northwestern Washington, Naval Station Everett is a relatively young facility and the Navy’s most modern. The naval station opened in 1994, roughly 11 years after the new base was proposed by Secretary of the Navy John Lehman as part of his Strategic Homeport plan.
With its ideal location on the Puget Sound, Everett was easily selected as the site of the US Navy Homeport. Today, Naval Station Everett is home to a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, a Coast Guard buoy tender, three frigates, and two destroyers. Everett is also home to one of the largest marinas on the west coast. The city’s strong economy is a combination of the naval station and other major businesses. The Naval Station employs 6,000. The largest area employer is Boeing with 32,000 employees.
