Camp Lejeune is controlled by the US Marine Corps. The base is located on 246 square miles along North Carolina’s coast, south of Jacksonville. With 14 miles of shoreline, it is an important training area for amphibious assault training. The base was constructed in 1941 and is located between two deep-water ports.
Located near the Southern Outer Banks, Jacksonville is an attractive coastal city and the county seat of Onslow County. As home to Camp Lejeune, Jacksonville has one of the youngest populations of any city in the US, with the average age just 22 years old.
