Fort Custer Military Reservation, MI

The Fort Custer Training Center is situated alongside the Fort Custer State Park, a park that was established in 1971 and consists of just over 3,000 acres that was once Camp Custer. Camp Custer was a military base established in 1917. Today, the training center is used by the Michigan Army National Guard as well as other branches of the armed forces. It is one of the most used training facilities in the Midwest, used for small arms and maintenance training.

Fort Custer State Park features a 219-site campground, a multi-use trail system for mountain biking, horseback riding, dog-sledding, and hiking. Other activities in the park include snowmobiling, fishing, swimming, boating, and cross-country skiing. Facilities include cabins, a camp store, a boat launch, a beach, a playground, and picnic areas.

Fort Custer is located between Kalamazoo and Battle Creek. To rent an apartment in the Fort Custer area, look in Kalamazoo roughly 12 miles west, or in Battle Creek, about eight miles east. Other communities to consider include Augusta, Galesburg, and Bedford Charter Township.
