Barnes Air National Guard Base dates back to 1905, when it served as a military training area. It has hosted the Massachusetts Air National Guard 104th Fighter Wing since 1946. It is located on the north end of Barnes Municipal Airport in Westfield, Massachusetts. The 104th Fighter Wing is a unit of the Massachusetts Air National Guard and is under the Massachusetts National Guard jurisdiction.
Barnes ANGB and Barnes Municipal Airport is located about two miles north of Westfield, a historical city that was settled in 1660 and incorporated as a town in 1669. It was originally part of the Massachusetts Colony and was the westernmost settlement. Westfield is about nine miles west of Springfield and is considered a suburb of the larger metro area.
