Fort Gordon, GA

Known as the “Home of the Signal Regiment,” Fort Gordon is home to the 35 Signal Brigade and the 7th Signal Command, in addition to the National Security Agency/Central Security Service and the 513th Military Intelligence Brigade. The base began in 1917 as Camp Gordon, named for Confederate Army General John Brown Gordon, who later became governor of Georgia and a US senator.

Fort Gordon is located on the southwest side of Augusta, Georgia. Augusta is a great city for renting your Fort Gordon area apartment. Augusta is located along the Savannah River and the South Carolina border. The Augusta Downtown Historic District contains several pre-Civil War historic sites. Augusta was founded as part of the British colony of Georgia in 1735, making it the second oldest city in the state behind Savannah.

Renting an apartment near Fort Gordon will likely lead you to some of the suburban communities on Augusta’s southwest side, including Grovetown, Harlem, and Hephzibah. Other communities to consider include Belair, Martinez, West Augusta, and Evans. Augusta’s west side neighborhoods are also ideal locations. Look in Forest Hills, Lake Aumond, North Leg, Highland Park, Barton Chapel, Richmond Hill, and Meadowbrook.
