The Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow is one of only two supply and maintenance institutions, the other being the Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany. The mission of the MCLB Barstow is to rebuild and repair ground combat and combat support equipment. It also provides support to installations on the West Coast. MCLB is the second-largest employer in the Barstow area.

Barstow serves as a transportation hub for the Inland Empire. It is located about 55 miles north of San Bernardino and is the halfway point between Los Angeles and Los Vegas, Nevada.
