Will County, Illinois is considered part of the Chicago metro area and it is one of the fastest-growing counties in the state. The county was formed in 1836 and its county seat is Joliet. Joliet is about 40 miles southwest of Chicago and it is one of the most populated cities in the state. It is considered one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation. This busy city extends along the Des Plaines River and the DuPage River.
Other communities in Will County include Jackson, Plainfield, DuPage, Will, Reed, Troy, Wilmington, the village of Rockdale, and part of Naperville. Universities include Lewis University in Romeoville, the University of St. Francis in Joliet, and Governors State University in University Park.
Will County contains several parks, including the Des Plaines Fish and Wildlife Area, Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie, and Channahon State Park. The county also features many historic sites, including the Division Street Bridge, the Ogren-Reed Home, Wesley Township Hall, and the German Baptist Society Cemetery.
