The Graduate Student Farmhouse is completely rented for the 2025-26 academic year. Please request to get on the waiting list for the 2026-27 academic year. Rent is ALL INCLUSIVE (includes all utilities)! The Graduate Student Farmhouse is designed to create a community for six vetted graduate students and post-doc peers. Enjoy living in a spacious, newly remodeled, turn-of-the-century farmhouse situated on 100+ acres just a few miles south of campus (near Veterinary Medicine School). Enjoy the outdoors by relaxing on your wrap-around porch, getting outside to watch horses grazing, and know that the other graduate students respect your needs for quiet study time and to relax during your down time.
The farmhouse is a quiet alternative to crowded undergrad campus life designed specifically to create a community for graduate students and post-docs. It is not on a bus line, so you must have a car to consider. We currently have 3 veterinary students and 3 from other departments.
We have been housing U of I graduate students, veterinary students and post-docs for over 35 years. The house has outdoor dining on the wrap-around front porch and a newly updated kitchen (your bedroom is the only unfurnished space in the house).

Tie your hammock between the trees, have a barbecue with housemates on the farm, engage in conversations around the fire pit in summer or the cozy wood burning stone fireplace in the winter. Even though you can see the Assembly Hall on Campus from your porch, all you'll hear are the peaceful sounds of nature. No Smoking/No pets.
Must be a Graduate Student or a Post-Doc to interview and apply. Candidates need to make an appointment to see house in person or via a virtual tour. Application must supply excellent personal and professional references and are interviewed by current housemates. There is a one-month security deposit of $650.
