In the heart of Wisconsin, a lake sparkles with scattered sunlight beneath a canopy of green leaves, providing a quiet oasis for residents and visitors lucky enough to discover the tiny city of Wausau. The Wisconsin River meanders through the city while Rib Mountain provides a scenic backdrop.

Lake Wausau is the star of the Wisconsin River Valley, providing swimming beaches, boating, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and three large parks: Barker Stewart Island and Big Bull Fall Park, Bluegill Bay Park, and Big Eau Pleine Park.

Rib Mountain State Park and the Granite Peak Ski Area are both located on Rib Mountain. Although not technically a mountain, it is one of the oldest geologic formations on earth and the fourth highest point in Wisconsin. The park contains about 1,500 acres and features an observation tower, camping, and concerts. Granite Peak Ski Area is the third tallest ski area in the Midwest. It features 74 snow runs and six terrain parks. It opened in 1937 and was one of the first ski areas in the country.

Wausau takes full advantage of its beautiful landscape, providing residents with 37 city parks. White Water Park hosts whitewater kayaking and canoeing events, while Sylvan Hills is most popular in winter due to its tubing hills. Marathon Park hosts the Wisconsin Valley Fair and it contains campgrounds, a curling barn, hockey rinks, an amphitheater, playgrounds, concessions, exhibition buildings, and a bandstand.

Wausau apartment renters can enjoy outdoor adventures that include hiking, skiing, ice fishing, fishing, skating, sledding, camping, and boating. But they also get to enjoy a charming downtown area complete with a town square, art galleries, museums, shops, restaurants, and a wide variety of festivals.
