Wrapped around the Eau Claire River about 85 miles east of Minneapolis-St. Paul, the emerald green landscape and crystal blue waters of the river make Eau Claire a picturesque city – but it is also a city with a lot to offer. It is the county seat of Eau Claire County; it is home to several major companies, such as Menards and National Presto Industries, Inc.; and it is a college town, home to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Chippewa Valley Technical College.

Eau Claire is a hotbed for the music industry with several major recording artists claiming Eau Claire as their hometown, including Grammy award winner Bon Iver. The city is famous for its jazz, indie rock, and hip-hop. Owen Park is home to the Sarge Boyd Bandshell, a site listed on the National Register of Historic Places and a popular concert location.

The heart of the city is its historic downtown, a beautiful location filled with shops, restaurants, parks, and a bike trail. Year-round events in the downtown area include art festivals, music, performances, and family fun. The downtown Farmers Market offers fresh, local produce in an open-air setting. The distinctive downtown neighborhoods, such as North River Fronts, Third Ward, and North Side Hill, feature houses, apartments, and lofts. The Chippewa River State Trail, a 26-mile urban trail that runs alongside the Chippewa River, can be accessed from downtown’s Phoenix Park, which serves as the trailhead.

Outdoor activities in Eau Claire include golf, disc golf, hiking, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and skating. Nearby Lake Wissota State Park is northeast of Chippewa Falls and over 1,000 acres of parkland and a 6,300 acre lake. This popular destination is perfect for camping, hiking, and enjoying the large swimming beach. During winter, park visitors can enjoy ice fishing, cross-country skiing, and five miles of snowmobile trails.
