Central Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
Central Tacoma encompasses some of the most diverse, historic neighborhoods in the Tacoma area. These include the Franklin neighborhood (which borders Franklin Park), the Allenmore neighborhood (which borders Allenmore Golf Course) and the Wedge neighborhood (home to some of the city’s oldest architecture). Central is bordered by the downtown area in the southeast and the Fircrest area in the west. The North End of Tacoma, which includes the private college University of Puget Sound, lies due north of Central Tacoma.
Central Tacoma is home to roughly 11 percent of the city’s total population. Although the area is mostly residential, only about a third of the area has been used for that purpose. About 8.8 percent of Central’s land has not yet been developed, likely due to the fact that the Judson Family Farm owned much of this land at the time of Tacoma’s development.
Residents in the area enjoy quick access to the streetcar, the Dr. Martin Luther King branch of the Tacoma Library System, the Allenmore Hospital and Medical Center, and Chesney Stadium (home field to Tacoma Rainer’s minor league baseball team). The area’s school system boasts both public and private options. Central is often a popular choice for young families and professors looking to get away from the noise of campus. Although there are not many restaurants and bars in the area, the neighborhood’s proximity to the North End’s popular eateries (such as the Old Milwaukee Café and Asado) allows residents to enjoy a more mature lifestyle without missing out on Tacoma’s best culinary options.
