A snug little harbor town, Steilacoom Washington was the first incorporated town in Washington State, established in 1854. A National Historic District, Steilacoom is scenic in both its location and its architecture.
On the shores of Puget Sound, Steilacoom has beautiful waterfront views, with the mountains as a backdrop. Renting an apartment in Steilacoom will place you 12 miles southeast of Tacoma and 40 miles southeast of Seattle, near several state parks.
Spend the morning taking a walking tour of the historic district. Bair Drug & Hardware Store, built in 1895, is a great place to stop for lunch. The Nathaniel Orr Home and Pioneer Orchard, built in 1854, contains original furniture and artifacts.
Steilacoom is home to many annual events, including a Salmon Bake on Puget Sound, a Concerts in the Park series, and an Independence Day Parade & Street Fair.
