Spokane is located in the Inland Northwest region, which surrounds the Columbia River Basin and extends into northern Idaho, northeastern Oregon, and far northwestern Montana. This ruggedly beautiful area is perfect for hiking, skiing, mountain climbing, river rafting, boating, fishing, swimming and other outdoor activities.
The Inland Northwest area features 76 lakes, 33 golf courses, 11 wineries, five major national parks, the Columbia River gorge, and the Grand Coulee Dam. Glacier National Park, Mt. Rainier National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Canada’s Banff National Park, and Jasper National Park are all within driving distance of Spokane.
Spokane is one of the largest cities in the region and is home to some gorgeous neighborhoods — 18 of which are recognized as historic districts on the National Register. Some of Spokane’s most famous neighborhoods include Browne’s Addition, Riverside, and Hillyard. When renting an apartment in Spokane, be sure to explore all of these amazing areas.
And while this area is famous for its outdoor recreation, there are plenty of cultural activities, as well. Catch a performance at the Spokane Civic Theatre, the Bing Crosby Theater, or the Fox Theater. Spokane is home to a thriving arts community and features two major Artwalks per year. The Davenport District, East Sprague, and the Garland Business District are all vibrant arts districts.
