Windermere Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
The Windermere neighborhood in Seattle is on the shores of Lake Washington. Many homes feature views of the lake. Some of the more expensive properties have waterfront access. Although Windermere is mainly a single-family neighborhood, apartments and condos also dot the shore of the lake.
Located just north of the University of Washington, the community has views of the Cascade Mountain range and Mount Rainier. The neighborhood was named after a town with the same name in England’s lake district.
The Windermere Park and Beach Club, a private beach club, attracts residents to the area. Dues-paying members must live in the neighborhood to qualify for membership. Tennis courts are also available for members.
Warren Magnuson Park is located at the north end of the neighborhood. This park provides water access for swimmers as well as ball fields, playground, and a picnic area. Visitors also enjoy a climbing wall and swings. The site was previously the Naval Air Station in Seattle and the site of the first Boeing airplane flight. The second-largest park in the city at more than 350 acres, it includes a 12-acre sports meadow with 10 sport fields, three of which are lit and padded with synthetic turf. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy soccer, baseball, rugby and softball.
Shoppers have easy access to the outdoor shopping mall at University Village. Because of the community’s proximity to the University of Washington, many students and faculty populate this scenic neighborhood. Buses carry commuters to the university district and downtown via Sand Point Way N. E. The area is also popular with bikers, who enjoy the long ride along Burke Gilman Trail.
