The Seattle neighborhood of Ballard was settled by fishermen and still retains some of its Scandinavian charm. Located north of downtown Seattle on the edge of Puget Sound, Ballard is an up-and-coming neighborhood, popular with homebuyers and college students alike.

The marina houses both recreational and fishing boats, as well as other commercial watercraft. The Burke-Gilman bike path links Ballard with other Seattle neighborhoods, extending over 20 miles into the countryside. Ballard residents also enjoy picnicking at the Hiram Chittenden Locks, while watching boats travel from Lake Union to Puget Sound.
Commuters can catch a bus to downtown Seattle or an express bus to the Eastside, where many tech jobs are located.
