Town and Country is a working class neighborhood in north Spokane. The area features single story, mid-century homes, some on large lots with in-ground swimming pools. Linwood Park, on the west side of the neighborhood, provides residents with an open green space, tennis courts and playground facilities. Most homes were built in the 1940s, ’50s and ’60s; the majority are owner occupied.
In the northeast corner of the neighborhood lies the historic Holy Cross Cemetery. Catholic Bishop Charles D. White dedicated the 80-acre cemetery in 1931, but the land’s use as a cemetery dates back to 1888. Town and Country’s borders are Division Street to the east, Cedar Road to the west, West Francis to the south and Country Homes Boulevard along the north.
Plenty of entertainment awaits residents of Town and Country. Aces Casino has a sports bar and 10 gaming tables where residents can play blackjack, Texas hold ‘em and poker. Most restaurants are at the south end of the neighborhood, near Francis Avenue. Pueblo Amigo, Mamma Mia’s, Dairy Queen and Moon’s Mongolian Grill offer tasty meals for Town and Country residents. The barber shop in Town and Country Shopping Center is the hub of community gossip and activity. Homes in the neighborhood are mostly single family structures, with a few apartment complexes and rowhouses.
Town and Country has plenty of schools and churches in the area. The neighborhood is within a few miles of Spokane Community College. Residents worship at Linwood Seventh Day Adventist Church, Trinity Baptist Church, Pentecostal Evangelical Church, Country Homes Christian Church, and Northwood Presbyterian Church. Neighborhood children attend Northside Preschool and Linwood Elementary School.
