Raleigh Court can be reached from Downtown Roanoke by way of the Memorial Bridge that crosses the Roanoke River. This neighborhood was settled in the 1900s and has retained most of the charm from that time period. Raleigh Court was named the Neighborhood of the Year in 1992 by Neighborhoods USA.
The southern border is Grandin Court SW to Brandon Avenue SW to continuing onto Brambleton Avenue SW. The eastern border follows the Roanoke River and continues down Brighten Road SW. The neighborhood is border on the north by Mountain View Terrace SW. The western border follows the Roanoke River, taking off on Overland Avenue SW and hills back to Grandin Court SW. The growth of this area is linked to the streetcar service than ran from 1915 to 1948. The area is now serviced by the Roanoke Transit System.
It is one of the few neighborhoods to have a downtown section with specialty shops and restaurants. The Grandin Village has wide sidewalk area for the visitors to stroll and wide greenbelt areas around it giving it a park-like setting. Grandin Village is located on Memorial between Westover Avenue SW and Grandin Road SW. There is more shopping and dining on Grandin Road SW, in fact, everything a resident could want is found in this little area.
Raleigh Court shares two parks with the Grandin Court neighborhood. Shrine Hill Park and Fishburn Park are both on the southern border. On Windsor Avenue SW, there is the Raleigh Court Park and site of the Woodrow Wilson Middle School. There are many churches in the area.
Raleigh Court is charming. From the older homes to the newer multi-unit dwellings, the wide green belts between the residences and the open spaces for walking make this a great neighborhood.
