Deeply rooted in history, this community of five neighborhoods, each unique in their own way make up Peters Creek South.
The history of Peters Creek South comes from records of the earliest roads built through the Roanoke Valley in the early 1700s. The first land grant made here was in the early 1720s and the namesake of Peter Creek South, Peter Kinder, bought 150 acres where Peters Creek and the Roanoke River intersect.
Probably one of the most historic parts of the Roanoke community is Peters Creek South. The five neighborhoods that make up Peters Creek South formed during the early 1950s and continued into the 1960s. Farmland became multi-family dwellings and single-family ranchers. Rolling hills and beautiful meadows set this neighborhood conglomerate apart from the others. Beautiful apartment complexes and single-family homes are featured here.

Straus Park and Ridgeview Park welcome families to the neighborhood with courts for basketball, tennis, and open-field recreation, along with picnic areas and handicap accessibility. The exemplary school system provides education by way of Fairview Elementary School, William Fleming High School, William Ruffner Middle School, and Westside Elementary.
