The Kenwood neighborhood of Roanoke, Virginia, is bordered on the north by Jamison Avenue SE and Dale Avenue SE. The eastern border is the town of Vinton. The southern border is the Roanoke River and the western border is 13th Street SE. This older Roanoke neighborhood is a mix of homes from the 1920s to the 1940s, along with some newer construction and apartments.
There is shopping at the Parkside Plaza Shopping Center on Dale Avenue SE. There are fast-food restaurants and services intermixed with the homes along Jamison Avenue SE. Industrial areas are located on the banks of the Roanoke River. The Roanoke Transit System is widely available in this neighborhood. There are many churches in the area.
The 64-acre Fallon Park is on Dale Avenue SE and has basketball and tennis courts. There is a baseball field and a play structure with swings to entertain the children. The walking paths wind their way through the entire park. Fallon Park also has a municipal pool that is open in the summer. Within Fallon Park is the Fallon Elementary School.
Kenwood is a small neighborhood that is mostly residential. While there are some places to shop and dine, Kenwood has the distinct advantage of bordering the Town of Vinton. Here the residents have many more options to visit the specialty shops in Downtown Vinton and expand their dining opportunities. There they can visit the Farmer’s Market. Vinton also offers 11 miles of trails for hiking and biking at the Wolf Creek Greenway. These trails are geared for all ages and abilities.
