Vinton, Virginia is a small town nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Although Vinton is just five miles away from Downtown Roanoke, the residents of this area have everything they need in their own community.
Downtown Vinton is bordered on the south by the Roanoke River Gorge. The northern border follows South Blair Street, turning at East Lee Street until it reaches South Poplar Street. The eastern border is East Madison Avenue, and the western border is Jefferson Avenue.
Getting around in Downtown Vinton is easy with the Roanoke Transit Valley Metro System, but many of Downtown’s activities lie within walking distance. The city sponsors a Farmer’s Market that was established in 1988. Weather permitting, the Farmer’s Market is open from April to November. The Vinton Historical Society operates a museum that shares the area’s history. The city runs the Municipal Swimming Pool, which is open in the summer. Just outside of Downtown Vinton lies the Wolf Creek Greenway Trail. In fact, the area offers several hiking and biking trails. One trail follows the Wolf Creek tributary of the Roanoke River.
Downtown Vinton supports the many single family homes and multi-family dwellings with two elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school. There are also several churches, restaurants, shops Downtown. So, while it may appear small, Downtown Vinton offers everything that the bigger cities do, but without giving up its unique small town flavor.
