This suburban area in ZIP code 24503 is surrounded by many other planned communities including Huntingwood, Bethel Estates, Marvin Place, Bethel Park, Fairway Oaks, and Boonsboro Acres. Wildwind’s main thoroughfares include Coffee Road, Boonsboro Road, Wiggington Road, Hawkins Mill Road, and the Lynchburg Expressway.

Aside from the neighborhood’s magnificent mountain views in Lynchburg’s prime Forest region, the area features a number of small lakes and ponds, which further complement its nature-friendly feel. Most homes are near small creeks and ponds, which provide opportunities for fishing. Most of these areas also feature many ducks and geese, adding to the community’s nature-filled atmosphere.

Going eastward from Wildwind leads to the more commercialized portion of Lynchburg’s Boonsboro section. Although Wildwind’s surrounding area is primarily residential, locals have easy access to long stretches of private and public establishments from a few minutes away, primarily along Coffee Road and Boonsboro Road.

Going east from Wildwind leads to the more commercialized area mainly featuring the Boonsboro Shopping Center and the neighboring Village Courts Shopping Center. Both of these major shopping hubs are located along Boonsboro Road. From here, the Virginia Baptist Hospital and Oakwood Country Club are about ten minutes away. Meanwhile, going further southeast leads to the Forest Plaza West Shopping Center.

Several recreation sites and parks are also located a few miles east of the neighborhood including the Peaks View Park, Blackwater Park, and Blackwater Creek Natural Area. The northern portion of Wildwind is also near the Boonsboro Country Club.
