Seminary Hill is a historic neighborhood in Lynchburg, Virginia in the 24501 zip code. It got its name from the seminary that once graced this hill. Today it surrounds the University of Virginia Lynchburg on three sides. The boundaries of the neighborhood are Kemper Street on the east, and railroad tracks to the south, west and north. It is located to the southwest of downtown Lynchburg.
The University of Virginia Lynchburg has a very attractive campus that blends well into this neighborhood. It is a four year coed university that offers a variety of graduate and undergraduate degrees.
Lynchburg has a City Stadium Complex. It is located just a short ride away from Seminary Hill. There are two parts to the complex, a football field which is primarily used by the local high schools, and Calvin Falwell Field the home field of the Lynchburg Hillcats, a minor league baseball team affiliated with the Atlanta Braves. Even though it is minor league ball, it is a very popular franchise and there is a lot of local support.
Two of Lynchburg’s city parks are just a short drive away from Seminary Hill. Miller Park and Younger Park. Younger Park is a five acre neighborhood park that offers a basketball court and picnic area. The majority of the park is passive, with oak trees surrounding the open areas. Miller Park is one of the oldest in the city and includes a swimming pool and picnic areas. As requested by Samuel Miller who donated most of the land to the city, there are still many mature native trees scattered throughout the thirty-seven acre park.
When residents need to grocery shop, Westover Shopping Center which is located quite close, has a Food Lion grocery store.
