The homes in the Maple Hills community are located in Lynchburg, just outside of Roanoke, and are enclosed by State Route 1475 to the west and a portion of the north, until it intersects with Maple Hill Drive, which becomes the area’s eastern border. Omega Drive forms the southern boundary of these neighborhoods. A few miles from the community sits the Farm Basket, which has been a popular local shopping destination for more than 30 years. Established as a roadside fruit stand in the mid 1960s; the shop soon gained a reputation as the best place to go when looking for specialty foods and unique gift items.
Another popular attraction in the area is Jefferson’s Poplar Forest, which is a short three mile drive away for Maple Hills residents. Designed and constructed by former president Thomas Jefferson in the early 1800’s on his 4800 acre plantation, the house was built in the shape of an octagon to provide the maximum light and air circulation, while taking up the least amount of space possible. Once a favorite retreat from the pressures of life at Monticello, the home is now being restored to its early 19th century appearance. Visitors can tour the restoration and view the landscaped grounds and artifacts that have been unearthed.
Families looking for exercise, fun, and general togetherness may enjoy visiting The Villa Swim Club, a private family centered public swimming pool located about 3 miles away. Staffed by certified lifeguards, the pool ranges from a foot deep at the kid’s play area to three feet in the middle and deepens to 10 feet in the diving well. Lounge chairs and tables surround the fenced pool, where family and friends can gather and relax, and the pool can be rented for parties or special events.
