The neighborhood of Lynchburg College surrounds the college and the student community with restaurants, small shops, convenience stores, and book stores. Visitors are drawn to the lovely, historic campus, founded in 1903, especially to Friendship Circle. All sidewalks on the campus lead to Friendship Circle, named to commemorate the founding of the first Virginia chapter of the National Conference of Christians and Jews on the Lynchburg College campus in 1935.
The Lynchburg Public Library is within walking distance of the community. Carmik Eight, a neighborhood theatre, has 10 large screens where first run movies are shown. The downtown Lynchburg Community market, located at the corner of12th & Main, has an eclectic mix of local craft shops, restaurants, and boutiques for leisurely browsing.
Opportunities for recreation in this area include golf, available at the Peaks Par -3 Golf Club nearby. The public, nine holes, three par courses is great for beginner or experienced golfer. The Blackwater Creek Bikeway extends for approximately three miles along an historic, abandoned railroad bed and is suitable for bikers and walkers of all ages. It is a part of the James River Heritage Trail system and is a great place to enjoy plants, trees and wildlife native to the area.
Point of Honor Museum reminds visitors of the past duels fought for honor that are a part of Lynchburg history. The museum is the restored Dr. George Cabell Sr. Federal style mansion and is open for visitors. The interior features a dramatic mural of the monuments of Paris, period furnishings and interior design that reflects the elegance of Southern hospitality. The home was situated to include an impressive view of the James River.
