Sprawling, tree-filled properties and winding, country-lane style roads make Doral Acres a rural paradise. Those living in the western section of the neighborhood have the added benefit of looking out over picturesque Lakeland Lake.
Doral Acres encompasses zip code 24502. The community is roughly bounded by Pacos Street on the north, Leesville Road on the east, Moreview Drive on the south, and Chesterfield Road on the west. Highway 460/Timberlake Road runs to the west and north, and Highway 20/Wards Road lies to the east. The community is for the most part residential, although there is a church and service establishment in the southern tip.
Lakeland Lake is one of the many attractive features of living in Doral Acres. This neighborhood lake sits right outside of the community to the west. The lake has a fishing pier, and onshore you’ll find a volleyball and basketball court.
For golf enthusiasts, there are two courses outside of the community. To the south lies the Cedar Hills Golf Course. This 9-hole facility features level terrain. To the west of Doral Acres you’ll find the Poplar Forest Golf Course, which is located in the Poplar Forest. This is also a 9-hole course, but it covers somewhat hilly fairways and includes the Poplar Forest Lake.
Next to the golf course lies the famous retreat of one of the country’s founding fathers, Thomas Jefferson. Known as Poplar Forest, the site is open to the public 9 months of the year. Visitors can tour his home and gardens. Archaeologists are currently excavating the site in search of artifacts from the former Poplar Forest landscape that Jefferson described in his writings.
