The Central Business District of Lynchburg, Virginia is at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The area shares the 27504 zip code and is part of Lynchburg County.
The Central Business District is bordered by Route 163, South Amherst Highway, at the northwest. Court Street forms the southwestern boundary and the river creates the eastern boundary for the District. Main Street runs through the center and is a one-way street from southeast to northwest. Church Street runs one way from north to south. Streets in the district are 9th with portions of 6th, 7th, 11th all ending at Jefferson Street. Portions of 8th, 10th, and 12th Street are also in the Business District.
Jefferson Street and Commerce Street run in a north-south direction. The James River Heritage Trail runs along side Jefferson Street. Route 29 intersects with Main Street just to the south of the district. Bus routes for public transportation are available along all roads except Jefferson Street. The Central Business District has plenty of sidewalks and parking lots accessible for off-street parking.
The Central Business District includes the Lynchburg Community Market, a US Bankruptcy Court, Lynchburg Circuit Court, and the Lynchburg Commonwealth Attorney. The Lynchburg Public Law Library and Lynchburg City Hall are also in the district area.
Residents can find recreation to the south at Diamond Hill Recreation Center and Guggenheimer Memorial Park. To the north is the Daniels Hill Recreation Center. Miller Park, Jefferson Park, Blackwater Creek Natural Area, and Reservoir Park are to the west. Civitan Park is just to the east across the river.
Lynchburg College and Lynchburg Stadium are a short drive to the west. Liberty University is south between Routes 29 and 460 with the Lynchburg Regional Preston Glenn Field Airport just south of the intersection of Routes 29 and 460.
