Founded in 1851, Round Rock, Texas was originally named Brushy Creek. Brushy Creek had a distinguishing feature — a large, round rock jutted out of the creek where the water was low. During the Civil War, the round rock was used by Jesse Chisholm to cross the creek, and the town was renamed in 1854.
Round Rock is located just minutes north of the State Capital. Over the last several years, the town has experienced rapid economic growth and development. Round Rock is home to Dell Computers, TECO/Westinghouse, and other businesses. Baseball fans enjoy cheering on the Round Rock Express, a minor league team affiliated with the Houston Astros. Round Rock’s school district is one of the top-ranked in the state, and its utility and tax rates are among the best.
