During the 1970 US census, the citizens of Northlake were counted — all 20 of them. Today, this growing town contains about 2,250 residents. Northlake is 12 miles west of Lake Grapevine along Interstate 35 and Highway 114. It is fifteen minutes from the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport. Although Northlake continues to grow, it still retains vast, undeveloped ranch land, offering a rural Texas ambiance just 20 minutes north of Fort Worth.
Residents of Northlake enjoy sailing, boating, jet-skiing, and fishing at nearby Grapevine Lake. Lewisville Lake is also nearby. Known for bass fishing, this lake hosts several fishing competitions every year. The parks surrounding the lake offer picnic areas, playgrounds, and hiking trails.
Northwest Independent School District, which serves Northlake students and three other counties, is a fast-growing school district with a goal to be the best and most sought-after district in Texas. Nearby colleges and universities include the University of North Texas, Texas Woman’s University, Westlake Academy, and Texas Christian University.
Northlake is six miles north of the Texas Motor Speedway, a popular destination for race fans. It is visited by more than 900,000 people a year and hosts two annual NASCAR races.
