Sports enthusiasts are right at home in the community of Trend. Located just minutes from downtown Midland, this well-situated neighborhood is surrounded by a number of baseball and football stadiums, including the home field of a minor league baseball team.
The Midlands Rockhounds Professional Baseball team lies to the west of Trend. This award-winning, minor leaf baseball team was affiliated with the Chicago Cubs from 1972 to 1984 and the California Angels from 1985 to 1988. They won their first Texas League Championship in 2005. Each summer, the team conducts a baseball camp for area youth that focuses on the fundamentals of the game and skills required to succeed as a professional player.
The West Texas United Sockers Softball Club is located next door to the Rockhounds. This active club features tournaments, camps and clinics, and a soccer youth academy. In the same complex is the Grande Communications Football Stadium, which has a professional-style football field that is open for use by area teams.
Not too far away to the east of Trend is Memorial Stadium, which has a baseball diamond, and football field. Eraic Johnson Field, located to the north, has a baseball diamond, tennis courts, and a track.
Those desiring a game of golf have several courses to choose from in the area. The Hogan Park Field is a public course that constitutes two 18-hole courses. The Roadrunner course is a link-style layout and there is a more traditional style course that was built in 1959. Right next door to Hogan is Richland Hills Country Club, which has rolling fairways dotted with water hazards. There is also a pool, and tennis courts.
