Route 5 of the Midland-Odessa Urban Transit District runs along Neely Avenue, making it easy for Sunny Slope residents to access public transport. Midland Airpark is a city-owned general aviation facility located seven minutes away from Sunny Slope and Midland International Airport, the ninth busiest airport in Texas, is about twenty-five minutes away.
According to a 2008 survey, the top employers in Midland are Midland Independent School District, Warren Equipment Companies and Midland Memorial Hospital and Medical Center. The city still relies heavily on the oil industry; however, it has become a regional telecommunications and distribution center.
