South Park, located in the southern section of Midland, Texas, is a plane lover’s paradise. Three airports form a triangle with south park in the center. Midland Airpark, Southwest Incorporated Airport, and Midland International Airport provide aerial transportation for residents. With an average of 261 sunny days per year, clear skies afford many opportunities for the area’s pilots to take to the skies, or to simply watch the planes fly overhead.
This area has a drawing card for those who wish to be active in their community. With close to 100,000 people in the entire city of Midland, there are over 182 non-profit organizations that need volunteers. The non-profits include religious organizations, scouting groups and independent foundations, as well as well-known agencies, like Habitat for Humanity.
While South Park is located in a rural section of the state, being a county seat has its benefits. Along with government offices, the area boasts the well-established, two-year Midland College. Not only can high school students continue their education for approximately 1/3 the cost of four-year institutions, they don’t even have to leave home. The college offers free classes for those needing a GED, for ESL students, and they hold several popular seminars. They also offer Kids’ College for children during the summer and a special program for senior citizens called College Classics. Midland College also has an award-winning sports department.
For those wanting their own exercise opportunities, South Park is a great place to live. Bike trails and running trails are located near the neighborhood. The area also includes nearby parks and exercise establishments.
The Petroleum Museum is near South Park. Other attractions in and around Midland include the five-acre campus Museum of the Southwest and Blakemore Planetarium, and the Haley Library.
