Colony Place lies in zip code 79705. The boundaries of the neighborhood are Deerfield Drive, West Denger Avenue, and West Wadley Avenue to the north, North Garfield Street to the west, North I Street to the east, and Cimmaron Drive to the south. It is immediately west of Windlands Park, and Tumbleweed Park is just to the south.
Windlands Park has some winding, paved trails and several athletic fields, but Tumbleweed Park is simply a grassy area with some trees. There is no playground equipment in these parks.
The neighborhood is located a couple of blocks south of Midland College. The college was established in 1972 as a two-year college. The first classes weren’t held on the campus until 1975. The campus is said to be one of the most beautiful college campuses in the United States. Over the years, it has expanded from a two-year college to a four-year college, and it now occupies 224 acres.
The neighborhood is a tightly packed one, mixing duplexes, small single-family homes, and several large apartment complexes. There isn’t much green space in the area, except in the parks. There are, however, a reasonable number of trees in the neighborhood proper. There is also a Racquet Club in the center of the neighborhood. It has several tennis courts.
The American Air Power Heritage Museum offers airplane or air travel enthusiasts a chance to see some authentic World War II artifacts and memorabilia. The ACAHOF recognizes those who served during any war or conflict in the air.
