Westchase Neighborhood in Houston, TX

Westchase Neighborhood

The Westchase District is a business district at the heart of Houston’s west side. Westchase is known for its extravagant landscaping, diverse dining options, luxurious hotels, shopping strips, entertainment, housing selection, school systems, and public safety.

Businesses within the Westchase District pay a premium based for the services provided to them by the District. These services include landscaping, safety, a public website, publicity, and more. The Westchase District provides visitors and businesses with the perfect combination of big city excitement and suburban tranquility.

The area now known as the Westchase District was once set aside for farming and owned by Bob Smith, the famous Houston philanthropist and rancher. In 1973 the Westchase Corporation purchased the 760 acres of land from Smith. The area developed steadily, but growth took off when the Sam Houston Tollway, or Beltway 8, was formally opened in 1988. The Westchase District was later founded in 1995.

The accessibility of the Westchase District increases its attractiveness to businesses. The boundaries of Westchase run from Beltway 8 West, I-10 West, and Highway 59. Conveniently, the newer Westpark Tollway runs straight through Westchase as well. When most Houstonians think Westchase they think Westheimer, a street that runs horizontally through a large portion of Houston and Westchase. Continuing east on Westheimer will eventually bring you straight into the Galleria section of Houston, famous for the Galleria Mall and its indoor ice skating rink.

An impressive 1,500 businesses are located in the Westchase District including big names like Halliburton, Chevron, Dow Chemical, MI Swaco, Jacobs Engineering, BMC Software, and ABB. The consulate generals of Costa Rica and Indonesia are both located in Westchase.

Colleges in Westchase include The American Intercontinental University, Remington College, and Sanford-Brown College. The Westchase District encompasses Harris County’s Trace Gee Community Center, as well as the Chinese Cultural Center.
