Lasker Park is a Galveston, Texas neighborhood. It is located on Galveston Island, and is within the city limits of Galveston. Boundaries of Lasker Park are Avenue M and Avenue L, 51st Street, Avenue S, and 37th Street.
This neighborhood is named for a park located near its center. Lasker Park gets its name from an American family that lived here both before and after living in Germany for a time. The father of this family was a local businessman, Morris Lasker, who lived from 1840 to 1916. One of his sons, Albert Lasker, lived from 1880 to 1952. He was a prominent advertising executive and is credited with being one of the forerunners in the modern age of advertising through his work with Lord and Thomas.
In 2007, a local Boy Scout took this park as his project in an effort to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. He noted a need to resurface and repaint its tennis courts, among several other things. With approval from the city, and with its help, improvements were completed in November of the same year. Harris Lynch achieved his new rank, and the city praised the Scouts as the biggest help to the community.
Overall, the neighborhood of Lasker Park is a mix of businesses and residential properties. In it, one can find everything from insurance agents to restaurants, to groceries, to Bed and Breakfasts, and far more. Local school children are able to attend school within this neighborhood, as well.
Though this is an inland neighborhood, the shores of Galveston Bay are within walking distance from many areas, as are several other attractions.
