At the southwestern tip of the city of Galveston is the neighborhood of Fort Crockett. It is a mix of single-family homes and condominiums. The location of Fort Crockett puts it right on the coastline, with beautiful views of Galveston Bay. It is situated around other neighborhoods, including Old Silk Stocking, Lasker Park, and downtown Galveston.
Elementary school students in Fort Crockett can attend either Ambassadors Preparatory Academy, a public charter school, or Burnet Elementary. Also serving the neighborhood are Aim Middle School and Ball High School. Area institutions of higher education include Galveston College-Fort Crockett, Texas A&M Galveston Campus, or the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.
Many fun outdoor activities are available in and around the Fort Crockett community. Four Seasons on the Gulf features water sports, horseback riding, and golf, as does Inverness by the Bay, which is a little less than two miles away. Among the other golf courses nearby are Moody Gardens Golf Course, Lakeview Country Club, and the Bayou Golf Club.
Residents have easy access to several shopping centers. Galveston Place is less than a mile from the neighborhood, while the Galvez Shopping Center is only a mile farther. Mall of the Mainland is another option. The area also includes attractions such as the San Luis Resort, a nice getaway. There are also several charter companies in the area for fishing expeditions.
In addition to the water activities of Galveston Bay, residents enjoy visiting the Schlitterbahn Waterpark on hot summer days. Museums are scattered around the area, among them the Lone Star Flight Museum, Moody Mansion Museum, and the Ashton Villa House Museum.
