Established in 1848, historic downtown Georgetown features elegant Victorian architecture. There are over 180 homes and buildings on the National Register of Historic Places in Georgetown.

Georgetown is a wonderful place to live. In addition to offering one of the best softball venues in the country as well as many gold-medal award-winning parks, Georgetown is also home to The Palace Theatre (for plays), City Lights Theatres (for movies), Georgetown Symphony Society, Williamson Museum, and the well-known Inner Space Caverns.

After being hidden for 10,000 years, Inner Space Caverns was discovered in 1963 by a Texas Highway Department core drilling team. When the team was drilling into what they thought was 40 feet of solid limestone, they found that it wasn’t so solid after all. Inner Space Caverns is one of the best preserved caves in Texas.

One cannot mention Georgetown with mentioning Southwestern University. Established in 1872, Southwestern is Texas’ oldest institution of higher learning. Southwestern is a national liberal arts university that offers an intimate and challenging academic platform.

Lake Georgetown is a popular destination for swimming, hiking, camping, and more. There are also five golf courses in Georgetown, two of which are public. Musical events, fine arts, festivals, and more take place throughout the year in Georgetown, making this lively city an amazing place to call home.
