Named for a 12-acre mound covered by wild flowers, the city of Flower Mound, Texas is a beautiful area bordered by two large lakes. Lake Grapevine is a popular year-round destination for sailing, windsurfing, and water-skiing. Surrounded by parks, Lake Grapevine also has marinas, hiking, biking, and equestrian trails, picnic areas, and campgrounds. Lewisville Lake offers boating, swimming, several parks, and marinas. A great fishing location, several bass fishing contests are held here annually.
Flower Mound is located 28 miles northwest of Dallas and 10 miles north of the DFW Airport. It is also near the Texas Motor Speedway, the Gaylord Texas Resort, and the Grapevine Mills Mall. Flower Mound is home to three shopping centers and several restaurants.
The annual Wild About Flower Mound festival is held in mid-May. This free event features plenty of free parking, live music, a kids’ area with a petting zoo and a stick horse rodeo, a classic car show, photo and art contests, an animal rescue and parade, and more.
Three school districts serve Flower Mound: Lewisville Independent School District (which serves the majority of the city), Argyle, and Northwest Independent School District.
