Translated into English, Vista de Oro means “golden view.” Located south of El Paso International Airport and east of El Paso’s downtown core, this haven of suburbia is low keyed, sophisticated, and dates back to the mid 1970s. It is a combination of high and low rise apartments, duplexes, and single family homes. Vista De Oro Drive leads into the neighborhood off of Vista Del Sol Drive on the southern end.
This neighborhood is two miles south of the Eastwood Dog Park on Parkwood Drive. One of few off-leash dog areas in the city, this park offers a fenced in area, water fountains, and a public dog agility course. Vista Del Sol Park is in the center of the neighborhood and offers a baseball diamond, basketball course, restrooms, and picnic areas. Dogs are welcome but not off-leash.
Schools in the area include the El Paso Academy on Argal Court and Vista Hills Elementary on La Subida Drive. The Montwood Church of the Nazarene is on Montwood Drive, five blocks north and the Living Water Church on Trawood Drive is one block west of Vista Del Sol Park. Just to the west are the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the Christian Joy Center Church, both on Sumac Drive.
Neighborhood restaurants all within a block or two are the Packing Garden Restaurant and Marina’s German Bakery, both on Trawood Drive, and Tortilleria Del Sol on Lomaland Drive. Most shops, restaurants and services are along North Lee Trevino Drive in the east, North Yarbrough Drive in the west or along the Interstate 10 corridor. A shopping mall at the intersection of the latter two streets offers a Wal-Mart Super Center, Burlington Coat Factory, Pet Smart, and the Texas Roadhouse Restaurant.
