Northeast of downtown El Paso, Texas on the southern border of Fort Bliss is the semi-desert neighborhood of Timberwolf. It consists of one-story, medium-sized homes built fairly close to the streets; many of the lots are nicely landscaped.
Interstate 10, which runs east to west, is just to the south of the neighborhood. Interstate 110, not far to the west of the community, runs north to south. Timberwolf is also not far from the southern runway of El Paso International Airport and Biggs Army Airfield, which are just to the east of Fort Bliss.
The proximity to Fort Bliss and to Biggs Army Airfield makes Timberwolf a prime location for off-base housing for families of military personnel. Apartment or condo hunters can choose from the Timberwolf Apartments, Brookhollow Apartments, or Linda Vista Village.
Schools serving Timberwolf and the surrounding area are part of the El Paso Independent School District; nearby schools include Jefferson High School and Austin High School. There are three different parks inside the borders of the neighborhood: Mesa Terrace Park, Loretto-Lincoln Park, and Chelsea Park.
Portions of Fort Bliss are open to the public by permit. The chief attraction is the U.S. Army Air Defense Artillery Museum. The base also has a cinema, the Grand 10–Fort Bliss. Other cinemas in the area include Premier Cinema 18 at Bassett, Premiere Cinema Montwood Movies 7, and Starplex Cinemas–East Pointe Movies 12.
To the west is the Franklin Mountains State Park, a popular spot for hiking, primitive tent camping, and rock climbing. Visitors should call ahead for camping reservations.
