The El Paso, Texas neighborhood of South Central is bordered by El Paisano Drive on the north, South Kansas Street on the east, Cesar E. Chavez Border Highway on the south, and South Cotton Street on the east. Both public transportation and El Paso’s downtown district lie easily within walking distance from any location in South Central. The neighborhood also is close to the border between the Texas and Mexico, which lies just beyond the Cesar E. Chavez Border Highway.
This neighborhood has a bit of everything. Several schools populate South Central, so children don’t have far to travel for a quality education. Grocery stores serve local needs, and many residents are able to get to the store without having to get in the car. The Houchen Community Center provides services for residents of all ages, including sports, classes, outings, and camps.
On South Campbell Street, Armijo Park offers a place for residents to take children to play. Close to the park is Armijo library and Armijo Aquatic Center, which offers residents fitness classes and summer swim leagues.
Citizens of South Central work together with law enforcement agencies in grassroot efforts to keep the community safe. The city of El Paso proudly boasts the results of an independent study that ranked it safest city with a population of over 500,000 people in the United States.
