South Belvidere is a suburban neighborhood in El Paso, Texas, bordered by Belvidere Street on the west and northwest, by North Resler Drive on the northeast and east, and by North Mesa Street (State Highway 20) on the south. The zip code is 79912. The neighborhood is close to a major highway, Interstate 10, which is also US 180 and US 85. It is near New Mexico and the Mexican border.
Several parks are in the South Belvidere area. The Irwin J Lambka Park hosts youth baseball league games, while the H T Ponsford Park hosts nerf football league games. Other nearby parks include Paul Harvey Park, Palo Verde Park, Snow Heights Park, H T Ponsford Park, Crestmont Park, Lyndon Baines Johnson Park, and the Coronado Baseball Field.
A bowling alley and entertainment center not far away has meeting rooms for parties and banquets, in addition to bowling and a video arcade. The Sunland Park Mall is a 10-minute drive from South Belvidere. The two-story mall has more than 135 stores.
Near the mall, right over the border in New Mexico, is the Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino. There are thoroughbred and quarter horse races four times a week from December through April. Several famous jockeys got their start at Sunland. The casino has 700 slot machines and there are several restaurants, as well as a lounge with karaoke nights and live entertainment.
El Paso is the sixth largest city in Texas. The University of Texas El Paso, commonly called “UTEP,” has over 22,000 students. UTEP’s large stadiums are not only the site of UTEP athletics, but also of concerts and special events.
