The neighborhood of Sandy Creek is located to the east of downtown El Paso, Texas. It consists of medium to fairly large one- and two-story homes. Many of the streets end up in cul-de-sacs. This being the Southwest, there’s not much green grass to be found, but there are a lot of planted trees and vegetation to go along with the semi-desert vegetation that is natural to the area.
Schools serving the Sandy Creek area include J.M. Hanks High School, Indian Ridge Middle School, and Glen Cove Elementary School.
BJ’s Restaurant is a kid-friendly establishment and even has a website dedicated to kids’ games, activities, and iPod downloads. They also act as host to many fund-raising events.
Not far away to the northeast is El Paso International Airport and Fort Bliss, the massive U.S. Army base.
Fort Bliss has areas that are open to civilians who have valid IDs, which are necessary for entry to the base. On base are several restaurants, a cinema, and the Club Metro. The club is a great place to shoot some pool, or cut a rug on their large dance floor. Drink prices are low and there is no cover charge.
A short drive to the east from Sandy Creek is Red Sands, where the locals like to drag race their dune buggies. Camping is free here.
Sun Hollow Apartments, Las Ventanas Apartments, and Puerta Villa are some of the apartment complexes close to Sandy Creek, so a variety of housing options exist in the area that are bound to suit different housing preferences.
Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino has live quarter horse and thoroughbred racing, a casino with over 700 slot machines, four restaurants, a lounge, and live entertainment.
