Ranchos del Sol, which translates to “rances of the sun,” is a neighborhood of individually-designed, single-family homes that sit along Highway 395 in east El Paso, Texas. Development in the area started in the mid 1970s and is ongoing.
The street names are just as eclectic as the homes. Some, like Citation Drive and Whirlaway Drive, are named for famous race horses. Others, like Bronco Buster Lane and Rancho Trail Drive, are more regional in nature. The street layout is a bit chaotic; however, pedestrian-friendly newcomers enjoy the cul-de-sacs and looped roadways. Most of Ranchos del Sol lies within a block or two of the Sun Metro Mass Transit System bus stops.
Single-story ranch homes are a favored architectural style throughout the neighborhood. Properties on the western end of the neighborhood tend to have much larger lots, some almost an acre. Homes on the eastern end are spaced much closer together. Swimming pools are common throughout Ranchos del Sol.
East of the neighborhood lies the Socorro Independent School District Activities Complex, which houses the district high school’s football games, baseball games, track and field events, and soccer games. The onsite Aquatic Center is used for swim meets. Options High School sits south of the complex.
On the southern end of the neighborhood is Ranchos Del Sol Park, which offers open green space with pathways and a soccer field. The Loma Verde Elementary School is next to the park. A number of churches are nearby as well, and the Las Palmas Market Place is the closest mall, which sits to the northwest along Interstate 10.
