Part residential, part commercial, the Pacific Park neighborhood is sandwiched between Interstate 10 and Doniphan Drive in northwest El Paso. It makes a convenient base for those attending the University of El Paso, five miles to the south or to explore the Franklin Mountains, another five miles to the east. The El Paso Country Club is less than two miles north. Bob O’s Family Fun Center, offering miniature golf, an arcade, batting cages and train rides is two blocks south of Pacific Park on Constitution Drive.
This community of mostly high and low rise apartments saw most of its development between 1970 and 1994. The residential area is accessed via Atlantic Road, Pacific Drive, and Celia Way. All the roads intersect, meeting at the back in a long open green space also called Pacific Park. This urban park offers shaded picnic tables, children’s play area, and a basketball court.
Doniphan Park Circle leads to the commercial section, south of the residences. High profile tenants include Verizon Business, Qwest Communications, and the Best Western Sunland Park Inn. Along Doniphan Drive are a number of fast food outlets including Subway, Sonic Drive-In, and McDonald’s. Other businesses along the route are the Valero Corner Store, the Family Dollar Store, International Truck Driving School, and Sunland Auto Parts.
Nearby schools include Zach White Elementary on Roxbury Drive and Mountain West Montessori on Frontera Road, both about a half mile north of Pacific Park. The Baby Bungalow Childcare and Learning Center is on Doniphan Park Circle, in Pacific Park’s business section. Saint Judes Catholic Church is on Atlantic Road.
