Sandwiched between the Franklin Mountains and the open space of a U.S. military base, the community of Morningside Heights offers residents expansive views of El Paso’s rugged terrain. Homes in the southwest section of the neighborhood are within walking distance of a popular community park.
Morningside Heights encompasses zip code 79930. The community is bounded by Fred Wilson Avenue to the north, the Patriot Freeway and Fort Bliss to the East, the Interstate 10 to the south, and the Franklin Mountains to the west.
Of the many pleasures of living in Morningside Heights is Memorial Park, which lies right outside of the southwestern corner of the community. This expansive park features a wide variety of features including a recreation center that offers programs for seniors. Outdoors you’ll find the Grandview swimming pool, a baseball diamond, soccer field, basketball court, playgrounds, and a variety of picnic spots.
A little further to the south is Memorial Park, which has wooded hiking trails, and picnic areas. Right next door to the park is the Memorial Park Library. This busy library features a bustling Kid’s Zone that offers weekly story times, and kid’s craft classes.
Fort Bliss runs along the eastern border of Morningside Heights. Spanning 1,700 acres, the base is located in Texas and New Mexico. The site is the U.S. Army’s second largest location, and serves as a national training facility. To the north of Morningside Heights is another military facility, the William Beaumont Army Medical Center. This Department of Defense medical facility serves active duty and retired military, as well as their families.
