The convenient location of the popular eastside neighborhood Montwood is one reason newcomers are attracted to the area. Other attractions include close proximity to shops and restaurants and the award-winning Socorro Independent School District.
Montwood Drive, which borders the neighborhood on the northeast, connects to Highway 375, which is a direct route to the major employment centers of El Paso International Airport and Fort Bliss. Residents spend less time in traffic and more time at home with an average commute of 20 minutes.
Several restaurants, bars, and fast-food places line Montwood Drive and Zarogoza Road, one of the neighborhood’s bordering roads. From authentic Mexican food to Chinese cuisine, diners can find a local menu to suit their tastes.
Other businesses are scattered along the busy routes, including automotive repair shops, convenience stores, and movie theaters. Shoppers are close both big retail stores and as small shops featuring local vendors.
Montwood is home to the former National Blue Ribbon award-winning Montwood High School, which is a part of the Socorro Independent School District. Home of the Rams, Montwood High School is known for successful athletic programs and solid academics. Sprawled on a large campus consisting of four buildings, the Career and Technology building is home to a culinary arts program, cosmetology classes, and an electrical trades program. Montwood Middle School, Helen Ball Elementary and O’Shea Keleher Elementary School are also in the area.
