East Side is a largely residential neighborhood in Bryan, Texas, a city just north of College Station. Also referred to as the East Side Historic District, this community is one of the oldest in the city, with many homes here dating back to pre-1940. This neighborhood spans nearly 0.3 square miles and is roughly bounded by South Texas Avenue/Highway 6 on the west, East 29th Street on the north and east, and South Coulter Drive on the south and east. As of 2009, nearly 900 people called this neighborhood home. East Side is part of Brazos County, in the 77803 zip code.
It’s home to several schools, including Stephen F. Austin Middle School on South Ennis Street and St. Joseph Catholic School on South Coulter Drive.
Along bustling Highway 6 is a variety of commercial offerings convenient for East Side residents. The Townshire Shopping Center is about a half-mile southeast of the community, also along Highway 6.
Less than one mile east is a medical park that includes the St. Joseph Hospital and adjacent rehabilitation center. This makes for convenient health care options for area residents, and also constitutes a major area employer.
Just east of the medical park is Briarcrest Country Club, the state’s only semi-private golf club. In addition to a championship 18-hole course, it offers tennis, swimming, fitness facilities, and dining options.
For more entertainment and recreation, residents of East Side head south to College Station, which is just over four miles away and less than a 10-minute drive. This city offers a variety of public parks and shopping centers, as well as Texas A&M University, the state’s oldest public university and a top-notch research institution.
