Guide to

College Station

College Station, TX Apartments for Rent

The famous song lyrics are true — deep in the heart of Texas, you’ll find stars that are big and bright in a prairie sky that’s wide and high. But there’s a city in the heart of Texas where the college is big and the residents are bright. That city, of course, is College Station, home to one of the largest research institutions and public universities in the nation, Texas A&M!

College Station is located in Brazos County about halfway between Austin and Houston. It is considered the most educated city in Texas and one of the most educated cities in the nation. Texas A&M is a Land-, Sea-, and Space-Grant institution with projects funded by the Office of Naval Research, the National Institutes of Health, and others.

Perhaps you want an apartment in College Station to be near the university. Or perhaps it is the picture-perfect downtown that draws you. Or maybe you just want to live where the coyotes wail along the trail … deep in the heart of Texas.

Things to Do in College Station:

College Station and neighboring Bryan may seem like small towns, but there’s a lot happening! Historic Downtown Bryan boasts a terrific collection of shops, restaurants, and antique stores. Nearby museums include the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History, the Brazos Valley African American Museum, the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum, and the Children’s Museum.

Wine enthusiasts will appreciate the Messina Hof Winery and Resort, a vineyard and winery established in 1977. There’s also the Downtown Uncorked Wine Bar, the Benjamin Knox Art Gallery and Wine Depot, and Peach Creek Vineyards to explore.

From rock to opera, there are plenty of live music venues you’ll be able to enjoy after moving to your new College Station apartment. The Grand Stafford Theater was built around 1910 and is a beautiful place to catch a performance of local and touring performers that range from Grammy award winners to up-and-coming artists. The theater includes a full-service bar and a second-level bar.

College Station is a great place for families, as well. It is home to several parks, numerous nature trails and bike paths, golf courses, and the largest mall in Brazos Valley – the 82-acre Post Oak Mall.

Of course, this is Aggie country – and if you are moving to College Station, be ready to gear up in maroon and white! The Aggies are part of NCAA Division I in the Southeastern Conference. The football team has a very long history – the program is more than 120 years old. The Aggies have earned several titles, including three national titles, and have produced two Heisman trophy winners.  The football team plays at Kyle Field, a stadium with a history dating back to 1904.

What to Consider When Moving to College Station:

College Station was formed around 1860 and coincided with the arrival of the Houston and Texas Central Railway. In 1876, the small railroad town was chosen as the site for the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas. The name was changed to Texas A&M University in 1963.

As you search for apartments in College Station, be aware that this city is divided up into three distinct districts. The Wolf Pen Creek District is a beautiful area near Post Oak Mall. This neighborhood has a greenway with trails, a lake, an ice skating center, and an amphitheater.

The Wellborn District dates back to 1867. It began as a construction camp for workers on the Houston and Texas Central Railroad. Wellborn was its own town until 2011, when College Station annexed it, and this district still has an autonomous feel.

Northgate is a lively district just north of Texas A&M. It is filled with apartment communities, restaurants, entertainment venues, and bars. This district is home to many students and is often the location of celebrations, events, festivals, and live music performances. Big names in the county music industry, such as Lyle Lovett and Robert Earl Keen, started out playing in Northgate.

Why College Station Apartments Are Hot:

In addition to being home to Texas A&M University, College Station has several major business parks, including the Texas A&M University Research Park. Several companies call this massive 324-acre research park home, including Lynntech, the Institute of Food Science and Engineering, Schlumberger, and AdventGX.

As a result of this thriving business environment, College Station has one of the lowest unemployment rates in Texas. Add in a charming downtown filled with shops, restaurants, bars, and art galleries and sprinkle in Aggie football, basketball, and baseball games, and it is easy to see why apartments in College Station are worth singing about.
