First settled in 1842, Carrollton’s original colonists named their new home after their old one – Carrollton, Illinois. Much of the city’s early history can be explored at the A.W. Perry Homestead Museum. Perry and his wife, Sarah, came to the area from Carrollton, Illinois in 1844. They built a home on 640 acres in 1857 – that home was torn down, but much of the lumber was reused in the building of their son Dewitt’s home – he built the current house in 1909, on top of the old foundation.
